About Helen

Having enjoyed horse riding from an early age, Helen chose to read Equine Science at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth following her A-levels. She had always had an interest in alternative therapies, and later successfully completed the two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Animal Manipulation (PGDipAM) from McTimoney College, validated by the University of Wales. The course is currently the only validated course in Europe teaching techniques for adjusting animals. Along the way, she has also gained several BHS examinations.

Helen is a member of the McTimoney Animal Association, the professional association for McTimoney Animal Practitioners. This organisation is responsible for setting professional standards and maintaining a code of ethics for its members. Members are required to maintain their level of expertise by undertaking continuing professional development. Click here to visit the McTimoney Animal Association’s website.

Helen is also a registered member of the Animal Health Professions’ Register, a voluntary, independent register of appropriately qualified animal health care professionals. This register provides assistance to veterinary surgeons and animal owners by enabling them to quickly identify suitably trained professionals for their complementary therapy needs. It is only open to certain sectors of the industry for those who have been trained to a suitable level on an accredited course, and requires a rigorous application procedure. All registrants are required to hold appropriate insurance and comply with standards of continuing professional development. Helen can be found on the AHPR under Chiropractic and Manipulation. Please click here to be directed to the AHPR website.

Helen is qualified, registered and fully insured to treat animals using the McTimoney Technique and Merishia Animal Massage. She mainly treats horses and dogs, but occasionally is asked to treat cats and will consider others and has experience of handling alpacas. However, she is not qualified to treat human patients.
